Amidst the global transition towards green energy, the Electric Vehicle (EV) sector is experiencing rapid growth. As critical supporting infrastructure, charging piles play a pivotal role. Norway, boasting one of the world's highest EV adoption rates, remains at the forefront of charging infrastructure development and intelligent upgrades.

Leveraging advanced technology and comprehensive solutions, Four Faith has partnered with a Norwegian enterprise to deliver a highly reliable and operationally efficient communication solution for EV charging piles. This initiative harnesses innovative domestic technology to advance the intelligent transformation of Europe's green energy infrastructure.

Project Background
A Norwegian operator specializing in public EV charging pile deployment and management required centralized monitoring and secure operation of its geographically dispersed intelligent charging piles. This need stemmed from business expansion and was essential for ensuring seamless end-to-end services, including QR code-based payments.

To establish robust cellular connectivity for the charging piles, the operator specified core requirements: ensuring real-time and confidential data transmission, enabling centralized supervision of multi-site assets, simplifying field deployment and Operation & Maintenance (O&M) processes, and reducing long-term operational expenditures.

Solution
Addressing the operator's critical demands for secure data transmission, multi-scenario deployment flexibility, and intelligent O&M, Four Faith implemented a communication solution centered on the FNB600 5G Outdoor Gateway, enabling efficient charging network management.

Four Faith FNB600 5G Outdoor Gateway
As the communication core between the EV charging station and the cloud management platform, it supports IPSec VPN for full traffic encryption, providing a secure channel for data such as QR code payments and device status. With an IP67-rated waterproof and dustproof design, it is well-suited for Norway’s rainy and cold outdoor conditions. Equipped with PoE power supply, it reduces wiring complexity and enhances installation flexibility. The built-in Wi-Fi 6 module offers on-site engineers convenient local access for debugging and maintenance.

By connecting to the customer’s network, the FNB600 5G outdoor gateway ensures a stable link to the cloud platform, supporting remote configuration of device parameters and monitoring of operational status. Combined with the cloud platform’s intelligent alert mechanism, it can instantly push notifications for disconnections, abnormal traffic, and other events, streamlining maintenance and response processes. Its industrial-grade design and integrated functions ensure reliable, all-weather operation of charging stations in challenging outdoor environments.

Implementation Methodology
·Device Deployment:
Collaborative configuration of the FNB600's VPN and cloud platform integration ensured secure, stable charging pile-to-management system connectivity.

·Functional Validation:
Verified real-time data transmission via IPSec tunnel, remote management (parameter configuration, status monitoring), and local Wi-Fi functions. Confirmed latency met operational requirements.

·O&M Training:
Provided cloud platform operation manuals and local Wi-Fi debugging guides, empowering the client's team for autonomous routine maintenance and fault resolution.

Key Technological Innovations
·Secure Encrypted Transmission
IPSec VPN full-tunnel encryption guarantees data confidentiality and integrity, fortifying network security.

·Industrial Environmental Resilience:
IP67 protection combined with low-temperature tolerance enables direct deployment in Norway's demanding climate, eliminating ancillary protection costs.

·Streamlined Deployment & O&M:
PoE reduces cabling complexity; Wi-Fi 6 local access coupled with cloud-based remote management minimizes on-site O&M burden.

·Scalable Architecture:
Cloud platform compatibility and support for diverse device types provide a foundation for future integration with urban energy systems (e.g., storage, solar).

Project Outcomes
End-to-End Data Security:
The IPSec VPN full-tunnel architecture facilitates centralized aggregation and encrypted transmission of all operational data (device status, payments, commands). Integrated with the cloud platform's unified monitoring, it establishes a secure chain of custody from edge devices to the management center, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality compliant with power industry standards.

Optimized O&M Economics:
Technicians perform wireless on-site configuration or execute comprehensive remote operations (parameter updates, status checks, diagnostics) via the cloud. This reduced physical site visits and associated travel, cutting average maintenance response times by >60% and lowering long-term O&M costs by 40%.

Enhanced Core Performance:
Industrial hardware combined with a private network ensures charging network stability. Cloud-based centralized management enables device visibility, automated alerts, and streamlined O&M workflows, significantly improving manageability. Layered IPSec encryption and private APN isolation provide dual-layer security across the communication link and data plane, bolstering network resilience.

Powering Zero-Carbon Mobility with Industrial IoT
This solution is now listed in the Norwegian Energy Agency's smart grid promotion catalog. Expansion into Swedish and Finnish markets is planned, alongside exploration of interconnections with urban energy storage systems and photovoltaic plants, targeting integrated "Vehicle-Charger-Grid" smart energy management.

Four Faith continues to advance R&D in 5G edge computing and AI-driven energy prediction. Through partnerships, we aim to deepen the integration of charging networks with urban energy management systems, contributing a replicable "Nordic Model" to global carbon neutrality objectives.
